32 Calypsonians Registered

Thirty-two calypsonians have registered for the 2019 Calypso Monarch competition. The large number of participants was confirmed by Chairman of the Calypso Sub-Committee Theodore Phillip.

Two newcomers will be on the big stage for the first time as the competition begins on Saturday December 7 with the eliminations.

Maxine Osborne and Steve Watts will come up against 30 other competitors during the eliminations, singing “Man’s Quest for Success” and “Carnival Do That” respectively.

The 2019 competition sees the return of four-time monarch Sylvina “Kandie” Malone. Malone, who missed last year’s contest will sing “Montserrat in my DNA.” Also making a comeback is Black Jaguar. He sings “Guilty” in position number 5.

The talented Maggie Destouche also returns to the competition and will perform “Blind Spot” in position number 19. Also, among those making comebacks is Nyota “Black Pearl” Mulcare. Her song is entitled “Let Fairness Rain.”

Among the veterans are Red Ride and Rakatang who placed second and third respectively in 2018. Kelvin “Tabu” will also line up among the veterans in the competition. Phillip says the prize monies start at $15,000.00
