Police Investigate Allegations Contained in Song Lyrics

The Royal Montserrat Police Service (RMPS) is reporting that it has received information that a number of persons are using social media to make allegations of unlawful sexual intercourse involving police officers with minors.

A release from the RMPS says these allegations are now contained within song lyrics and published on social media.

A song making allegations against a police officer is now making its rounds on Whatsapp, accusing the unnamed officer of sexual offences against minors within the community.

Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police with responsibilities to address allegations made against officers, Albert Williams, says he has ordered that an investigation be carried out into the accusations.

Deputy Williams says he is appealing to members of the public who might have credible information to support these allegations to come forward and cooperate with the police.

He claims that these allegations are of a very serious nature and he wants to assure the public that members of the RMPS are not above the law….stating that once there is sufficient evidence to prove these allegations, criminal charges will be instituted against those involved.

On the other hand, Deputy Commissioner Williams hereby informs the public that if the allegations were found to be false, persons involved may be subjected to criminal prosecution for criminal libel or slander, or individuals may take legal proceedings for defamation of character.

Anyone who wishes to come forward can contact him on 496-4500 or the office of the Commissioner of Police at police@gov.ms or any senior officer who they feel comfortable talking to.

Deputy Williams says the RMPS solicits the continuous support of the public to make Montserrat a safe place to be.
