Residents May Soon Have More Access to the Volcano Exclusion Zone

Plans are afoot to relax restrictions to some areas in the Exclusion Zone.

Director of the Montserrat Volcano Observatory Rod Stewart has indicated that the zoning process will be reassessed.

Areas currently out of bounds to visitors include Amersham, Kinsale and St. Patrick’s.

Work on a proposed new tool kit would give authorities more information on the hazards and risks posed to no-go areas such as St. Georges Hill.

The assessment of the exclusion zone will take several months to complete, and will add some flexibility to the current management system in place.
