Attorney-at-Law Disagrees That Some Cases To Be Tried By Judges Only
Attorney David Brandt has disagreed with the Director of Public Prosecution that some cases should be tried by a judge and not a jury.
Speaking at the opening of the New Law Year on Tuesday Oris Sullivan said there is a public perception of miscarriage of justice in some cases.
He is of the view that some cases are not adjudged properly.
However, David Brandt says there is no basis for his the suggestion.
Mr. Brandt believes persons here are perfectly capable of understanding even the most complex of cases.
He also says the prosecution has an advantage over the defense.
The right to be tried by a jury is enshrined in the constitution and legislated by the Assembly.
