Deputy Premier Returns From High Level Meeting in Chile
The Honourable Deputy Premier Delmaude Ryan participated in a high level meeting on women in Chile this week.
Mrs. Ryan, who has responsibility for women affairs attended the fifty-sixth meeting of the Presiding Officers of the Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The meeting looked at the report on the United Nations Joint Global Programme on Essential Services for Women and Girls Subject to Violence, and the report by the working group on the regional fund in support of women’s and feminist organizations and movements.
Participants also took part in discussions on women’s autonomy in changing economic scenarios in the framework of preparations for the fourteenth session of the Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean in 2019.
The first Regional Conference on the Integration of Women into the Economic and Social Development of Latin America and the Caribbean was held in Havana in 1977.
Since then, the Conference has met periodically to review the regional and sub regional situation with regard to women’s autonomy and rights, to put forward recommendations on public policies on gender equality, to undertake periodic assessments of the activities carried out in fulfillment of regional and international agreements and to serve as a forum for discussion on gender equality.
It brings together high-level authorities with responsibility for issues relating to the situation of women and for policies to ensure gender equity in the countries of the region.
