Montserrat Orchid Listed As Critically Endangered

The Montserrat National Trust (MNT) has established a laboratory to protect one of the island’s most endangered plant species.

The Montserrat Orchid has been placed on the critically endangered list and the MNT with the help of the Horticultural Society of Trinidad and Tobago, has developed a genes bank to protect it from extinction.

Anthony Tankai from the HSTT says this was necessary to prevent the removal of the orchid from its natural habitat.

Mr. Tankai was a guest on Securing Pockets of Paradise, aired weekly on Thursday.
