4.7 Magnitude Earthquake Felt In Montserrat
The 4.7 magnitude earthquake felt in Montserrat around 4:30 Tuesday afternoon had no connection with the Soufriere Hills Volcano.
The US-based Geological Survey (USGS) said that the quake, which occurred at 4:26 pm, was located five kilometres (km) east south east of Parham, Antigua and 13.4 km east south east of its capital St. Johns.
The quake, which was located 17.078°N 61.726°W and had a depth of 21.6 km, was also felt 85.2 km north of Guadeloupe.
Director at the Montserrat Volcano Observatory Rod Stewart said the earthquake reinforces the need for persons to be prepared as Montserrat is in an earthquake prone zone.
