St. Patrick’s Festival Parade winners revealed

The 2018 St. Patrick’s Festival Parade winners have been announced.

Aqua Montserrat Fish and Fins has been adjudged the winner of the Best Kiddies Troupe Category for its ensemble entitled “Revolution against Ocean Pollution.”

Sankofa for its float entitled “Looking Back to Your Past” has won the award for Best Decorated Float.

The prize for the Best Individual Afro-Montserratian category has been claimed by Jahvon Tuitt for his depiction of Oulaudo Equiano, the 1st Slave to have bought his freedom.

Jwa Day Veev “An expression of great happiness” created by Catherine Rodriques has taken the award for Best Individual Irish Montserratian Costume.

Gele Gala, a troupe reflecting the West African Nigerian Gele Headdress designed by Jeweline Roberts Riley has been adjudged the winner of the Best Afro Montserratian troupe category.  

 

Fittest Men in Quilt, an Irish Scottish Display worn by James “Fittestman” Greenaway and friends took the award for Best Irish Montserratian Troupe.

 

More than 12 troupes, groups and individuals took to the streets on St. Patrick’s Day in a host of vibrant and effervescent colours for the parade from the Montserrat Secondary School to the Heritage Village in Salem.

 

Hundreds of persons were on hand to witness the cultural display which featured local and regional groups to include presentations and bands from St. Kitts, Guadeloupe, and Antigua.
