Montserrat Named 5th best place to Visit for St.Patrick's

Montserrat has been listed as one of the top 5 destinations to celebrate St Patrick's.

The IrishCentral.com -  the sister website to the Irish-American publications Irish Voice newspaper and Irish America magazine, a website for the global Irish diaspora on Tuesday published an article on National Geographic’s top picks for St. Patrick’s Day around the world.

Montserrat was listed 5th, ahead of Montreal Canada, Dublin, Birmingham England, Cabo Roig Spain and Auckland, New Zealand.

New York City, Boston, Chicago and Savannah Georgia were ranked 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively.

The article also mentioned that New York, being ranked the highest on  the poll, is primarily because it has the world’s largest parade, which lasts for six hours.

Also mentioned in the article is Dublin being the only place in Ireland to make the list, adding that Dublin's four-day festival attracts half a million people each year with the parade as the highlight.

This year, Montserrat is commemorating 250 years since a planned slave revolt on March 17, 1768.
