Minister for Agriculture, Honourable John P. Osborne says the upcoming Agri Expo 2026 is aimed at reviving interest in agriculture, and encouraging more people in Montserrat to produce.
Minister Osborne says the exhibition is part of the Ministry’s efforts to bring back initiatives that previously motivated people to become involved in agriculture.
He says organizers are working to showcase the range of agricultural activities on the island, with competition categories including horticulture, agro-processed products and agricultural production systems.
“So what we’re really trying to do is bring back that tradition. I think we saw some Facebook posts where some people say, oh well, nothing is happening in agriculture like before. I think it was my good friend Garnett who actually said that, but I just want to say thankful to him to actually just recognize that these were initiatives that got people producing, got people interested and passionate about agriculture.
So we’re bringing this back as one of the ministry’s initiatives of helping people to produce and encouraging people to produce. I just want to say big up to my staff really though, and especially my permanent secretary, Ms. Daphne Castle. I’m going to say that this is her baby and the reason I’m going to say that is because she is very, very passionate about this exhibition,” he explains.
