Director of Social Services Department Supports Establishment of Central Beneficiary List for Emergencies

The Director of the Social Services Department is calling for  the establishment of a central beneficiary list before any emergencies or disasters occur.  Teresena Fergus contends that a verified and updated registry would reduce delays, improve coordination, prevent duplication, strengthen transparency, and allow vulnerable persons to receive assistance more quickly and systematically. Among the benefits which she outlined, Mrs Fergus says a proper registry will supply better planning, accountability, and evidence-based decision-making during emergencies She was at the time addressing the start of Montserrat Red Cross Week in observation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Day 2026 on May 8.

Montserrat Red Cross launches Design and Development Phase of a Cash and Voucher Assistance Programme for Montserrat

The Montserrat Red Cross has officially launched the design and development phase of a Cash and Voucher Assistance Programme (CVA) for Montserrat. This launch took place on Friday May 8th, World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day at the Disaster Management Coordination Agency (DMCA) conference room in Yellow Hill The day was observed under the theme, “On the side of humanity.” The CVA programme is expected to provide cash and vouchers to individuals and families after an emergency, allowing them to meet their own prioritized needs. Speaking at the launch, director of the Montserrat Red Cross, Delmaude Ryan, gave details on this phase of the programme, saying many stakeholders will be engaged throughout the process. Meanwhile, British Red Cross Emergency Programme Manager, Ammar Ibrahim, explained the aim of the CVA programme. In her remarks at the launch, Governor Her Excellency Harriet Cross highlighted the vital role the Red Cross plays in disaster management, and its valued partnership with the Disaster Management Coordination Agency (DMCA).  She also made a special announcement – confirming her acceptance to serve as Patron of the Montserrat Red Cross. The launch also featured remarks from Director of Social Services, Teresena Fergus.  Red Cross Board Chairman, Mr John Skerritt also presented a cheque to the Meals on Wheels Programme in recognition of their continued and invaluable contribution to the Montserrat community.

Director of Montserrat Red Cross shares Focus Areas for Organization

Recently appointed Director of the Montserrat Red Cross, Delmaude Ryan, says one of her immediate priorities is ensuring the organization is aligned with its mission to support vulnerable people in the community. Ryan was speaking with ZJB news and explained that the focus is on determining how many individuals will be reached through Red Cross programmes and how those initiatives will improve readiness and resilience within the community. Ryan said improving communication with the public is a key part of the organization’s future direction, ensuring that residents better understand how the Red Cross operates locally and how its programmes benefit the community.
