Police Respond To Paragliding In Look Out

The Royal Montserrat Police Service is advising persons engaged in paragliding to observe the laws and regulations governing such activities.

The RMPS says it responded to reports on Sunday 8th February 2025, involving an individual observed paragliding in the Look Out area.

In response the incident the police advised the individual of the legal requirement to notify the relevant authorities prior to engaging in any paragliding activities within Montserrat’s airspace.

The RMPS is therefore reminding the public that for safety, security and airspace management purposes, it is mandatory to inform the appropriate authorities before conducting any aerial activities, including paragliding.

The law enforcement body says this ensures the safety of both the participant and the wider community.

THE RMPS wants everyone to cooperate in helping to maintain a safe and secure environment.

Paragliding is the recreational and competitive adventure sport of flying paragliders, which are lightweight, free-flying, glider aircraft with no rigid primary structure.

Despite not using an engine, paraglider flights can last many hours and cover many hundreds of kilometres, though flights of one to five hours and covering some tens of kilometres are more the norm.
