Passage of National Audit Office Bill Stalled Again in Legislative Assembly
The passage of the National Audit Office Bill has stalled yet again in the Legislative Assembly.
The bill which underwent several changes will undergo further review before it is brought back to the Assembly.
(The National Audit Office Bill was finally passed into law in the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday. The bill underwent several changes before finally making it out of Committee.)
Members had concerns about the independence of the office, in line with the requirements of the constitution.
Attorney General Sheree Jemmotte Rodney says the legislation addresses all of the issues raised before including the employment status of the workers, who will remain as part of the public service.
The main sticking point however was the ability of the National Audit Office to operate independently.
