Sculptor Veronica Ryan Shortlisted For Prestigious Turner Prize
Montserrat-born UK-based sculptor Veronica Ryan, has been announced as one of four artists shortlisted for the prestigious Turner Prize for contemporary art.
Ryan, 66 , originally from Plymouth, was selected for her 2021 sculptures of a Custard Apple, Breadfruit, and Soursop.
The pieces were commissioned by the Hackney Council to be a permanent public monument celebrating the Windrush Generation.
Ryan, along with Heather Phillipson, Ingrid Pollard and Sin Wai Kin will exhibit their work at Tate Liverpool from October 22 – March 19, 2023.
The prize winner will be announced in December 2022.
Ryan’s work has been celebrated across the United Kingdom for many years.
Her work is currently part of the permanent collections of the Arts Council of Great Britain, Tate Collection, and The Henry Moore Collection.
She was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in Queen Elizabeth II’s 2021 Birthday Honours for services to art.
Ryan’s latest work titled ”The Weather Inside” is currently on display in New York as part of the Whitney Biennial through September 5, 2022.
She also has a one-person exhibition at Paula Cooper Gallery until May 28, 2022.
