Dr. Ingrid Buffonge Welcomes Announcement of New Medical Equipment for Montserrat.
Medical doctor Ingrid Buffonge has welcomed the news that Montserrat will soon have its own CT Scanner.
Speaking to ZJB News Dr. Buffonge, who has long campaigned for this vital piece of medical equipment, says she is extremely pleased that funding for a CT scanner on island and other vital pieces of equipment has been approved.
The UK Government announced on Monday that it will provide an additional 3 million pounds of funding for essential equipment.
These include a CT scanner, 3D mammography unit, oxygen generator, emergency room and incubator equipment, and a medical incinerator.
Dr. Buffonge believes these equipment will make a huge difference in improving Montserrat’s ability to diagnose serious medical conditions early resulting in better outcomes for patients.
Dr. Buffonge, who is a trained emergency physician notes that this includes both emergency cases such as stroke and major trauma and will also improve the Montserrat’s ability to diagnose cancers earlier.
She remarks that she is now much more hopeful about Montserrat's health service and is excited about the path being cleared for to better manage patients here on island.
Dr. Buffonge worked tireless for many years advocating for life saving medical equipment at the Hospital in St. Johns.
