Deputy Governor Intervenes To Resolve Jaison Peters Matter

The Deputy Governor has written a letter to the Leeward Islands Cricket Board  (LICB) reversing an earlier decision not to employ Jaison Peters on his return to Montserrat.   Peters has been selected for the Leeward Islands Hurricane Franchise in the West Indies Cricket Boards Professional Cricket League’s upcoming four day tournament later this year. The promising national cricketer who is employed as an Assistant Curator with the Ministry of Education, Youth Affairs and Sports was told in a letter by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry that his employment will not be secured after his return. The letter drew public criticism from persons who expressed disappointment in the way the matter was handled. However, Deputy Governor Mrs. Lyndell Simpson on Thursday overturned that decision, informing Peters and the LICB that the government will seek to ensure that there is a place for him when he returns. Mrs. Simpson stated that Mr Peters is a valued resource and has been a reliable and diligent worker. The Deputy Governor said the government looks forward to Peters returning and continuing to make his contribution to the development of cricket on Montserrat. The letter stated that the Government and people of Montserrat are extremely proud of Mr. Peters selection to the Leeward Islands Franchise. Mrs. Simpson said Mr. Peters’ selection and the recent performance of the Under 17 and Under 19 team have been a source of inspiration to aspiring cricketers and a reminder that we are a people of excellence. The Deputy Governor revealed that while the Ministry is planning to procure the services of Peters and his colleague under a different arrangement, the government will ensure that there is a place for him in any configuration.
