Local Entrepreneurs Making Big Strides with the Help of the Business Trade and Investment Unit

The Business, Trade and Investment Unit here is reporting major inroads in the development thrust for Montserrat.

Director of the unit, Jason Badal says with a number of entrepreneurs having side businesses, they are moving to formalize and expand them and take them beyond the shores of Montserrat.

He said for the first two quarters of 2026, the Business, Trade and Investment Unit has seen remarkable success.

Mr Badal stated that the Produce In Montserrat EXPO – PRIME, and the Montserrat Business Progressive Fund (MBPF) have made significant strides leading the push.

He explained that PRIME has grown “from just a normal one-day show into now what is a daily revenue earner for our producers.”

Mr. Badal said the prime trade show has morphed into now what “we call the made in Montserrat initiative.”

He continued, “that the Made in Montserrat initiative has a number of phases we’re still very much at the early stages where we are hand-holding entrepreneurs, businesses who usually sell during PRIME and using the social channels like facebook and whatsapp who are now on the supermarket shelves and we are now in advanced discussions with buyers outside of Montserrat for some of those products we deem export ready and it’s been a fantastic process to watch some of these  entrepreneurs with some of these labels that are not that attractive some of the packages that are not attractive and we are now modeling and helping them to get to those international standards.

Mr. Badal announced that currently there are advanced discussions with the Antigua and Barbuda Chamber of Commerce to promote Montserrat products in Antigua.
